When should you see a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy may be helpful, for example, if you have:

  • pain in the back, neck or shoulder region
  • problems with the shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand
  • problems with the hip, knee, ankle or foot
  • muscle or joint pain
  • overuse or sports injuries
  • a need for rehabilitation after an injury or surgery
  • challenges related to mobility or functional capacity
  • a need to improve ergonomics or prevent musculoskeletal complaints.

You can also see a physiotherapist as a preventive measure. If you want to improve your mobility, strengthen your body, improve your ergonomics or get guidance on safe training, a physiotherapist will help you find the right way forward.

Individual physiotherapy

Physiotherapy always starts from the client’s individual situation and goals. The physiotherapist assesses your symptoms, movement and functional capacity, and plans suitable treatment and rehabilitation together with you.

Physiotherapy may include, for example:

  • assessment of functional capacity and movement
  • individual therapeutic exercise
  • mobility and strength training
  • guidance on ergonomics and working positions
  • manual therapy where appropriate
  • rehabilitation after an injury or surgery
  • guidance on preventing symptoms
  • an individual home and exercise programme.

The aim is not only to ease symptoms, but also to help you understand your own body and find ways to maintain and develop your functional capacity yourself.

Occupational physiotherapy as part of occupational health care

The expertise of an occupational physiotherapist is part of the multidisciplinary collaboration within Tunturin Lääkärikeskus occupational health care.

Occupational physiotherapy takes into account the physical strain factors of the job, working positions, ergonomics, working methods and the employee’s work ability and functional capacity.

An occupational physiotherapist can take part in, for example:

  • workplace surveys
  • assessment of and guidance on ergonomics
  • assessment of physical strain
  • supporting the employee’s work ability and functional capacity
  • guidance on the exercise and working practices needed on the job.

The aim is to find practical solutions that support both the employee’s health and their ability to cope at work.

Physiotherapy as part of your wider care

At Tunturin Lääkärikeskus, physiotherapy can be combined with other health care treatment and rehabilitation where needed.

If a doctor’s assessment or further tests are required to determine the cause of your symptoms, this can be evaluated at a doctor’s appointment. Multidisciplinary collaboration makes it possible to look at the client’s situation as a whole and, where necessary, to plan follow-up care together.
